NOT ALL PONTIAC TIMING COVERS ALIGN CORRECTLY

If you have seen a harmonic balancer hub extremely worn by the seal lips and have leaks at the seal area, in most cases the timing cover was mis-aligned.  This tool centers the timing cover exactly over the crankshaft and when reversed in position, installs the timing seal perfectly. I use it on every engine I build.
You can install the factory type sleeves first, then check cover for best results. Remove sleeves if cover is not aligned.
Tool is also used to install tight lower timing gears to crank. The keyway notch clears the keyway on crank and is marked to position the tool. It also has a sight hole that is also used to remove tool on larger then stock crankshafts – common issue with modern stroker cranks.
This tool is also used to convert early Pontiac V-8’s cast iron timing covers to the modern seal. Those engines had a leather typle seal that often leaked. A machine shop would need to bore your timing cover using tool and seal as a template. The tool will then allow timing cover to be aligned and seal installed.
