The Spotts Performance dragster was purchased in 2000 from Mike Kamm and raced till 2010.
It was sold to a gentleman in Australia. When purchased in 2000 the chassis was updated by the help of Jack Gaydosh and the direct drive was removed and a built power glide by Gene Droogan was installed. Car debuted at Atco with Paul and his late father Pauls Sr. First passes were license runs and as Paul describes: The first hit made my eyes so wide opened. Car went into a wheel stand, started veering off, at which I lifted. Bracket race instincts kicked in at which I shifted into high gear and ran car out. Was just supposed to be a half pass. Hit the chutes (first time ever deploying a parachute) at the stripe and was like "that was worth my car getting stolen" (Paul had a 69 Firebird race car stolen in 1999).
From there with weight bars installed, multiple factory blocks/engine builds and always running Dport heads, the car went from upper 7's to the best of 7:13 and best mph of 196.
Paul learned a lot from this car. How to make engines last was the biggest accomplishment. Many parts were developed and tested like the WT4 windage tray, crank scrapers, Head L brackets, etc.2001 Pontiacs at the Grove Quick 16 runner up2002 Pontiacs at the Grove Quick 16 winnerNorwalk Ohio quick 16 number 1 qualifier 2002, 2003, 2004
